    Value

IHG has a bit of an interesting program, similar to Hilton, the value per point is relatively low and the multipliers on earning IHG points per dollar is high.

IHG had a major point devaluation in early 2021 that was somewhat fixed after people shared their discontent; however, since the devaluation, it is harder to find value out of the points than ever before. I strongly recommend against transferring to IHG, unless it is to top off a balance that you already have. The highest point redemption necessary to book a standard room in the most expensive hotel used to be 70,000 points. That has since been increased to as high as 120,000 on select nights.

I value IHG points at 0.5 cents per point. However, keep in mind it is not impossible to get more value.

    Do IHG Points expire?

IHG points expire after 12 months of inactivity with no earning or redeeming of points.

    High Value Use Case

InterContinental Bora Bora Resort Thalasso Spa

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
    • Cash price on the dates is $1,556.90

    • Cost in points is 100,000

    • $1,556.90 / 100,000 points = 1.5 cents per point
Prior to the early 2021 devaluation, this property used to go for 70,000 points, even still, this is really good value for points, well above the average!

Kimpton : Seafire Resort + Spa - Grand Cayman

    • Cash price on the dates is $939.77

    • Cost in points is 70,000

    • $939.77 / 70,000 points = 1.3 cents per point
While the points valuation in this scenario is not as high as it is in the Bora Bora Intercontinental, there are still sweet spots for redemptions.
